What we collect

We collect only the information needed to (a) help you find unclaimed property and (b) file a successful claim with the State Controller's Office.

  • Search inputs. The names you enter into our search tool, including any prior or maiden names, and the business names you ask us to look up.
  • Account information. Your name, email address, mobile phone number, and SMS communication preferences when you create an account, submit a service request, or opt in to receive SMS notifications.
  • Communications. Messages you send us about your status, and our responses.
  • Technical data. Standard web logs (IP address, browser, pages visited) used to keep the site secure and improve it.

How we use it

Your information is used for one purpose Specifically:

  • Running searches against California's public database.
  • Preparing and filing your details with California.
  • Verifying your identity, which is required by California.
  • Sending transactional SMS notifications (only if you have opted in), requests for additional information, identity verification notifications, and status updates.

SMS Communications

If you choose to receive SMS messages from CatchMyCash, we use your mobile phone number only to send transactional notifications related to your service request. These messages may include:

  • Service request confirmations.
  • Requests for additional documentation.
  • Identity verification notifications.
  • Message and data rates may apply.
  • You may opt out at any time by replying STOP.

SMS Privacy

CatchMyCash respects your privacy.

  • Mobile phone numbers and SMS consent information are used only for providing the SMS services you requested.
  • Mobile information will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
  • Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties except messaging service providers required to deliver SMS messages.

How it's protected

We treat your documents the way we'd want our own treated.

  • In transit: all data is sent over TLS-encrypted connections.
  • At rest: documents are stored encrypted in access-controlled cloud storage.
  • Access: only employees handling your claim can view your documents, and access is logged.
  • Retention: we keep claim records for the period required to support the claim and resolve any disputes; after that, they're deleted on a defined schedule.

Your rights

You can ask us, at any time, what data we hold about you, request a copy, or request deletion, or withdraw your consent to receive SMS notifications at any time.You may opt out of SMS communications at any time by replying STOP to any SMS message. Opting out of SMS messages will not affect your ability to communicate with us by email.
